Say hello to the Honeycomb Kitchen Shop. A newer establishment in the Downtown Rogers, area, Honeycomb is everything you will love about a boutique kitchen shop with a few added bonuses. 

Unlike some upscale kitchen stores, Honeycomb’s owners are friendly and approachable. So you can go in there with confidence and ask your questions without the fear of getting vague, snooty or unhelpful responses. I know this firsthand, because I’ve gone in there and asked some pretty dumb questions. Another bonus is that they offer classes. Their classes are taught by local talents, who offer their expertise and knowledge on everything from making chocolate, to soups, to using knives, to cocktail mixing, making homemade pasta and even french macaroons. And lastly, Honeycomb offers a large assortment of products, available in their Downtown Rogers store and online through their website. But what’s great, is that they also have a unique focus on selling local products. Owners Melissa Turpin and Dana Smith have been friends since college, where they met in 2002. Although they lived apart after college, they were reunited in 2010 when Dana moved back to Northwest Arkansas. The two had always talked about starting a business together and they often tossed around ideas, but nothing really stuck. After 10 years of working in the corporate world, Melissa started thinking more seriously about striking out on her own. As a child, she remembers her family loving to cook and eat together. And she also points out that she always enjoys shopping in independently-owned kitchen shops. So the idea stuck in her head to open one of her own. But she didn’t want to do it by herself, so she brought it up to Dana.  

Dana, who also loves to cook, was on board and in 2014, the decision was made to pursue the idea. Dana, who has a degree in environmental science, came up with the name because of it's earthy and organic feel. And Melissa, (who’s name happens to mean honey bee in Greek), loved it. Next, was the issue of finding a location. Dana lives in Fayetteville and Melissa is a Bentonville resident, but neither town felt like a good fit for their business venture. It was Downtown Rogers that finally won them over. Melissa says that it was the combination of natural historic charm and a friendly, supportive and tight-knit community that led to their decision to create a business here. After having lived and and worked here for more than 10 years, I can’t say I disagree with them.
