Saddle Creek Orthodontics | Memphis Tennessee Commercial Photography

Last week, we traveled to Memphis for what turned out to be one of our favorite photography assignments ever. Saddle Creek Orthodontics hired us to create some images of their space and also, for their space. The first part of our job was a typical commercial shoot for us; documenting the details of a space and the routines of the people who use it. The second part of the shoot however, was definitely something out of the ordinary. We were given the task of creating some double exposure images overlaying patients of the clinic with famous Memphis landmarks. We created the images in the clinic against a plain backdrop and then, traveled to various landmarks and overlaid the patients faces and profiles with the landmarks. Their goal was to have some wall art for their space that incorporated their patients, local landmarks and that also fit with their tastefully modern aesthetic. We were of course, happy to oblige. 

Double exposures originated with film cameras. When a photographer would snap a picture and forget to advance the film, the next image was exposed onto the same frame of film. Nowadays, people shoot double exposures on purpose with film cameras and digital cameras have done a lot to keep that particular technique alive. We've long been fans of the double exposure and we've used them on numerous photo shoots. One of the great features of our Canon cameras is the ability to really explore this art form in-camera. While Nikon cameras allow you to shoot double or multiple exposures, Canon has taken things a few steps further allowing you to shoot with different overlay modes and also, allowing to you to add images on top of each other at a later date but still, in-camera.
